Attendance Week 6

Regular attendance is crucial for success at school. At Mareeba State School our expectation is Every day in Every classroom, Every child is learning and achieving.

We understand its coming into the colder months which usually brings the cold and flu season along with it. If your child is sick it is vital that you notify the school each day your child will be absent so that we can mark them out accordingly. Our goal is to reduce the amount of “Unexplained" absences and strive to achieve good communication with our families to ensure all our students are safe and accounted for. We have numerous systems set up to make this process easier for you as parents and carers.

How to notify the school when your child is going to be absent (away).

  • Daily absent SMS – Text messages are sent each day advising parents that their child is not at school and requesting an explanation
  • Absentee Phone Line – 40 928166
  • Absentee E-Mail – attendance@mareebass.eq.edu.au
  • E-Mail your child's Class teacher

We are now in week 6, which means our students and teachers have started assessment and this is an important time to be at school.

While we focus on being at school, we are also focussing on being in class, on time, prepared and ready to learn.  Attendance and engagement is important at school.  It is not enough just to 'show up'.  Students not ready to learn distract from all the students that are ready to learn, and that is not fair.  Please ensure your child is well rested, fed, prepared and ready for school each day in a calm manner that fits with our “Calm Classroom" ethos. Let the HUB team know if you need a hand with any of this.

You will hear from us if you child is not in class (or learning environment) ready to learn!

Let's hope our attendance data reflects the positive steps we are all taking to ensure your child has the best chance to learn, achieve and succeed @ MSS!
