Hello! My name is Kerry Watson.
I have taken over the role of Support Teacher: Literacy & Numeracy this year after many years at Mareeba SS as a classroom teacher.
We have quite a large team in Learning Support this year. Zelka Stark has continued as Learning Support Teacher working with Years 1 and 2. She has been providing lessons focussing on phonics and phonemic awareness to assist with student reading outcomes. Krystyna Artiemiew has joined us this term and is working part time on class and part time in Learning Support. Her focus is working with year 3-6 students on ICPs. Our Early Years teachers have the support of Margarita Tatti and Di Moretto who are working part time with Prep students.
We are also lucky enough to have several amazing teacher aides working with students who have a speech disorder or who have English as a second language or dialect.
Extending student learning has also been a focus of our team this year. Last term, each year level was given a taster of extension activities and currently students in years 2 and 6 are participating in extension lessons in English or Maths. Several students are currently involved in external opportunities such as Readers' Cup and the DAF Schools Plant Science Competition.
